So Here's What I'm Thinking....

Hello and welcome to this little experiment of mine. So, I want to start by laying out a little background to this whole idea. Don't worry, I'll be brief.

I am an aspiring writer. Sci-Fi mostly, some crime and mystery, and a little fantasy. But recently I've been trying to plan out an idea I have for a book about a serial killer and in the process of trying to develop some characters, quickly came to realize that I know very little about the inner workings of the police force and procedures of detectives or what it even takes to become a detective.

So naturally I turned to the internet to try and do some research. And, while I do suspect I haven't quite tried hard enough yet, I was surprised at how hard it was to find any good information on any of that that actually made sense to me as someone who's not a criminal justice student.

That's when I had this idea.

What I'm hoping to turn this site into is a repository of sorts for reference materials to help other writers. For example, say I find an article on "How to Become a Detective." If I find it to be informative and/or in any way marginally helpful, I would copy the body text of the article (or possibly just the relevant information depending on the article), cite my source and make sure to link back to the original article, and then categorize the post under a Criminal Justice section or a Detectives section or something along those lines.

Not to be limited to real world applications, some articles could be for the sake of inspiration. In typical fantasy, for example, there have been many different interpretations of Elves. Everything from the lore and characteristics to traits and customs. And when approaching fantasy writing, it can difficult to approach something along these lines if you specifically want to set your version of Elves apart from many of the common versions. This site could hold articles about the different interpretations that aspiring writers could turn to for inspiration on aspects they like to mix and match or otherwise avoid.

In theory, this could be community based. On the off chance anyone's reading this and I can set aside the time to manage the site, I would gladly take submissions or recommendations of articles through e-mail to post on the site. And on the even greater off chance that this idea actually catches on, I could possibly facilitate a move to a Wordpress site or something to better manage everything.

But that'll be down the road. Right now I want to start by uploading some things I find in the near future as I resume my research and see if I can build up something of an infrastructure.

So... here goes the experiment
